solar power plant tender attracts 25 bids

A total of 166 possible investors submitted bids for the 100 megawatt solar power plant advertised by Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) in May last year.
The Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security Mr Eric Molale informed Parliament on Monday that 25 bids have been shortlisted following an evaluation process by BPC.
In response to a parliamentary question, the minister said a detailed request for proposal would be issued to the 25 potential investors as soon as preliminary Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies for the five sites were concluded. Mr Molale said the process would lead to the final selection of two sites required for the power plants.
“The ministry has a renewable energy strategy which covers, among other things, the implementation of solar power projects such as the 100MW Solar Power project, grid tied and off-grid solar power projects,” he said.
Gabane-Mmankgodi MP Major General Pius Mokgware had asked the minister if it was true that BPC released invitation to tender for 100MW last year. He further wanted to know whether the country has a solar strategy. ENDS
