11 Jun 2018

A plea of two residents of Xhosa 1 Ward in Mahalapye living with disability was answered recently as they received wheelchairs.

Presenting the wheelchairs recently, Mr Gaolatlhe Lekone revealed that by donating the wheelchairs, he was answering the special request made by the duo at a past gathering.

Touched by the plea, Mr Lekone was inspired to answer the request of the two women.

He said he solicited for support from various companies, and the Selebi Phikwe rotary club branch heeded the call.

He was of the view that the wheel chairs will not only ease movement of the beneficiaries but also restore their dignity.

“I am well aware that it is not easy living with disability, since you cannot do everything for yourself which is very inconvenient at times,“ he added.

One of the recipients, Ms Bochana Tshukudu showered Mr Lekone with appreciation, saying it was very hard for her to continue using her old wheelchair, which was worn out and not user friendly.

She said her hospital visits will now be more convenient thanks to Mr Lekone’s compassion.

“God is watching, I wish you well in your future endeavours,” she said.

Ms Otsile Mojapelo, appreciated Mr Lekone’s gesture of helping those in need, adding that if the seed of goodwill could be planted in many people’s hearts, the country would be able to address most social challenges.

Ms Mojapelo said living with disability is not easy, especially if one was not born with disability.

She said receiving such a gesture inspires them to be strong and move forward with their lives in spite of the challenges brought about by their disability.

She said realising that someone, somewhere cares about them brings a ray of hope and brightens their lives.

Councillor Modiri Ramaribana of Xhosa 1 ward said the spirit of a compassion and caring must spread among communities.

Mr Ramaribana appreciated Mr Lekone’s gesture of sharing and caring.

He said if the same spirit could spread across it will be easy to develop Xhosa1 ward.

He thus called on the community to join hands with the leadership to develop their ward.

Mr Ramaribana appreciated traditional leaders, Dikgosi for their support towards community building projects. ENDS
