Maths science remedy for modern challenges

Today’s society is dominated and driven by ideas and products from science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Speaking during a two-days GHACHNOWE (Ghanzi, Chobe and North West) regional mathematics and science fair in Ghanzi over the weekend, Dr Pogiso Letswere form Your Family Dental Clinic said mathematics, science and technology were remedy to the today’s world challenges.
He said the influence of science and technology would continue to be dominant on people’s lives.
Dr Letswere explained that the workplace and public sphere were increasingly dependent on new and established technologies.
He said scientific, technological knowledge and skills were crucial for most of actions and decisions today, thus he challenged the students to dig deep into their minds and invest into the fields of mathematics, science and technology.
Dr Letswere said that the investment would never fail to bear fruits as long as the students believed in it and had courage to pursue it with enthusiasm.
“I therefore believe that you are here to showcase new ideas, originality in your research and come up with inventions that will solve challenges faced by our local communities, our country and the global community today,” he said.
Also, GHACHNOWE chairperson, Mr Kelebogile Gaboeme challenged the students to develop their ideas and transform them further to tackle today’s world, ‘students do not let your ideas to die.”
Mr Gaboeme said the students should look forward to participate in the upcoming SADC expo, to be hosted by Botswana.
He said STEM festival exhibition organised by BIUST was another platform they could use to show their capabilities.
He thanked the teachers for their endurance in defying the difficult conditions they were faced with.
For his part, principal education officer - Ghanzi, Mr Moffat Kokeletso said the time was ripe to invest into the fields of mathematics, science and technology because the country was transforming from resource- based to knowledge base economy. ends
