Youth ministry recognises excellence
10 Jun 2018
Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC) assessment teams have embarked on district visits to improve service delivery and respond to the ever changing and increasing demanding needs of the ministry’s clientele.
Addressing MYSC staff during the Ministerial Excellence Awards ceremony, Minister Thapelo Olopeng said the teams cut across functional areas for the purpose of providing guidance and sharing best practices.
He said his ministry valued and appreciated the importance of each individual and their contribution to the attainment of the broad ministerial goals, including the expectations of their diverse customer service.
The district visits initiative, the minister said, would bear fruit only if the feedback from those audits were used to close performance gaps and further enhance delivery.
“The performance of the ministry is embodied in the actions and behaviour of employees, the way they conduct and apply themselves,” said Mr Olopeng.
He urged them to live the vision of the ministry and contribute meaningfully towards creating an enabling environment that empowers youth, develops sport and “leverages the strength of our culture and heritage.”
The ministry, he noted, had intensified its partnership with the private sector.
He also appreciated the continued support of their d stakeholders.Mr Olopeng told awards recipients that the awards were a sign of recognition and encouragement, as they had taken pride in their work and gone an extra mile for their colleagues, customers and the community.
“They have exemplified MYSC’s core values in their daily work and their strong sense of duty, tireless efforts and the sacrifice of their personal time have ensured that the job is well done,” he said.
He urged them to redouble their efforts to accomplish even greater things in their work and motivate others to do the same.
In order for one to be recognised, he said they should have contributed in many ways to the achievement of MYSC’s guidelines.
He further encouraged ministry’s senior management to improve performance in a systematic and sustainable way by focusing on the role of employees in supporting change.
In order to build a service-oriented ministry whose name is synonymous with excellence and quality service, he said they needed to provide timely solutions to the challenges they faced, promise less and deliver more every time. ENDS
