Be innovative - Makgato

Employees should be innovative in creating systems that are reliable and effective in order to attract more foreign investors to improve the country’s economy.
Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Ms Dorcas Makgato said that at the ministry’s annual excellence awards on June 7.
The excellence awards honoured and recognised employees who had performed exceptionally well in their service delivery.
The theme; Serving with Passion, Fuel for Excellence, she said urged them to be enthusiastic, diligent and passionate in what they did, therefore ensuring that they became ‘facilitators and not frustrators’ to their customers.
She said it was imperative to improve customer service in her ministry to ensure that their clients remained satisfied with the service, thus boosting investors’ confidence in the process.
“Your role is to serve customers in accordance to the expectations based on the mandate of this ministry despite challenges. Challenges should never be an excuse to not deliver what is expected of you, rather, you are expected to go over and beyond to provide good customer service and keep the clients happy,” she said.
As a Ministry, she said they were committed to ensuring that the public was happy ‘from birth as we register them and ensure they enjoy services as we issue them with Identity cards and facilitates their travel through relevant documentation.”
Ms Makgato encouraged awardees to continue to be trend-setters, role models and change agents by sharing knowledge, skills, competencies and abilities so that their colleagues also reach high level performances.
“You have been singled out of the many for having displayed innovative attitudes and being able to think out of the box when serving your customers.
This should serve as a motivation and inspiration to others to work harder in their respective responsibilities,” she added.
Mr Thagopi Basinyi was awarded minister’s special award for having been a facilitator in his line of work by delivering exceptional service in a challenging situation.
Ms Abaleng Khombane received permanent secretary’s award for being highly innovative and an activist against gender based violence.
Other categories included innovation award, change agent award, most customer centric officer award as well as jubilee awards. ENDS
