Christine Botlogetswe continues to impress as she clocked another Personal Best (PB) to finish second with a time of 51.00 during the FBK Games IAAF World Challenge in Hengelo, Netherlands, on Sunday.
Botlogetswe entered the race oozing confidence after winning the Oordegem competition in Belgium on May 26 with a time of 51.22.
The Rakops-born star’s performance thus far indicates that she is on an upward spiral .
With age still on her side, Botlogetswe is expected to be one of the contenders at next year’s World Championships.
The 400-metre runner finished second in Hengelo after a brave fight against the winner, Shakima Wimbley of the USA, who clocked 50.88.
Position three went to Justyna Święty-Ersetic of Poland followed by Madiea Ghafoor of the Netherlands in 51.60.
Her coach, Justice Dipeba said in an interview that the athlete prepared well for the race and performed brilliantly.
“We could see during the week that the times were going to be better. She was feeling very positive and she wanted to run better than the last race, which is always the objective,” he said.
Dipeba said they had planned to run their own race, and that they were not worried about other runners.
Track and field analyst, Billy Tambula said Botlogetswe took off well and managed to hold off Shakima who was chasing her.
He said she remained strong throughout the race despite being forced to run a very fast 300m, and that even when Shakima passed her, she remained calm and maintained the speed to keep the front runner within striking distance.
“You could see that she finished very fast recording yet another PB, the sky is the limit for Christine,” he said. ENDS
