Fire damages hostels

04 Jun 2018

Serowe Administrative Authority subordinate council chairperson, Mr Mpho Kooreme has informed councillors on June 4 that some boarding facilities for Sehunou Primary School pupils had been gutted by fire that left a trail of damages.

Speaking at the official opening of the sub council’s meeting, Mr Kooreme said 35 mattresses were destroyed, 14 bunk beds were affected and a host of pupils belongings were torched in the mysterious fire whose cause is yet to be determined.

Out of shock and fright, the SAA chairperson said 22 pupils fled the hostels, but were later found and brought back to school where they were currently lodging at a games room.

To ameliorate the situation, the chairperson said his authority sourced 100 blankets, some from Malatswai hostels, whilst awaiting a permanent remedy.

This followed a visit to the scene by SAA secretary, Mr Terrence Ntalabgwe who then determined the basic needs.

Mr Kooreme said their investigations into the cause of fire were ongoing. ENDS
