Co - operatives model way to go

The Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr Moiseraele Goya has implored West Hanahai multipurpose Co- operative society to recruit more members.

Officially opening the recently built West Hanahai multipurpose Co- operative society building on June 2, Mr Goya stated that just like politics, Co-operative societies needed numbers to grow.

Nonetheless, he said it was inspiring to learn that the Co- operative membership had grown from 29 to 140 members.
 

Mr Goya said it was government desire to see  Co-operative societies expanding, spreading and taking a cue from chain stores concept, to the extent of competing with them.

He said Co-operative societies did not only bring services closer  to the community, but they also boosted the economic and development outlook of the community, as  they presented decent jobs, diversification   opportunities  alongside   combating poverty.

In this regards, he said   Co-operative complemented the mandate and agenda of government.

Through affirmative action, he said government would continue to support co-operatives.

Also, he advised that the Co-operative should efficiently serve and satisfy their clients locally before thinking of other market.  

He was happy that the West Hanahai Co- operative wants to construct a cultural village too.

Previously, West Hanahai multipurpose Co- operative society manager, Ms Kgotlhagano Machao outlined that they encountered legal battle with their initial contractor but said they were happy that at the end to have a perfect co-operative structure in place.

Ghanzi deputy council secretary, Mr Omphile Mosweu assured the society of the Council’s support but cautioned that they should not sky rocket the prices when dealing with government as was often the case with many entities.

For her part, area councilor Ms Tshabang Sethantsho appreciated that the co-operative had employed more females, something she said signalled progress in gender equality.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Xhoxo Xase of West Hanahai requested that government should improve the condition of the road which linked them with Ghanzi since they would frequent Ghanzi to purchase stock.

Kgosi Xase pleaded with the community to purchase from the co-operative to boost its sales and show support. ends
