Selebi Phikwe Town Council budget for the 2018/2019 financial year stands at P137 477 250, its mayor Mr Molosiwa Molosiwa has revealed.
Addressing a full council meeting this week, he said funds comprised an overall estimated revenue support of P122 667 410 and P14 809 840 from the organisation’s own income sources.
Mr Molosiwa explained that the revenue support grant represented 90 per cent of the total estimated income.
He said five Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) phase two projects with their respective electrical works amounting to P19 158 252 were in progress.
The projects, he said, included a double classroom and a toilet block at Botshabelo Primary School, one double classroom and two toilet blocks at Phikwe Primary School, one double classroom and one toilet block at
Tlhabololo Primary School and 12 teachers’ quarters in the town.
Mr Molosiwa said the construction of a toilet block at Botshabelo Primary School was complete while other projects are progressing well at different stages.
He explained that Selebi Phikwe would not benefit from the ESP Phase III this financial year. He however mentioned that the council had been allocated P6.5 million for maintenance of primary school facilities.
“This will see the council maintaining 64 teachers’ houses, which will highly reduce the backlog in maintenance of schools and teachers’ houses,” he said.
Maintenance works would be carried out at Boitumelo Primary School and 20 teachers’ houses to the tune of P2.7 million, he said.
He said tenders for the different projects were already at the evaluation and award stages. ENDS
