LEA donates to families in Okavango

28 May 2018

Some organisations continue to fulfil the compassionate, just and caring nation pillar by extending a helping hand to the needy.

As part of its cooperate social responsibility initiative, Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), Maun branch, identified two less privileged families in Beetsha and Mogotho and donated food hampers, clothes and blankets to them.

Speaking at the handover ceremony recently, branch manager, Mr Agripa Hengari said the idea came about in September when he and his team started contributing money from their pockets towards the initiative.

He also said they collected clothes that LEA branch staff no longer used but still in good condition to be donated to those who needed them while their social club also sponsored the initiative.

Mr Hengari said the little that they managed to donate to the two families was just the beginning of a relationship with the people of Okavango District, adding that they would continue working closely with the community.

Meanwhile, Okavango Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Mbahahauka Kambimba said every donation was a powerful gesture as it consoled and brought happiness to those who received.

He commended LEA for the noble gesture, noting that the initiative could be a call to other businesses and companies to follow suit.

Mr Kambimba also said the donation instilled dignity to the Kavengu in Mogotho and Kgalatshweu in Beetsha families.

For his part, the area councillor, Mr Setshwantsho Maira encouraged the people of Okavango to embrace and adopt the spirit of sharing.

He said donations could come in many forms besides monetary, and gave an example of one’s good harvest that could be shared with those that did not do well. ENDS
