Confiscating people’s identity cards is against the law.

Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane said this during a kgotla meeting in Mopipi recently that an identity card could only be used by its owner.

He warned those confiscating the cards on the pretext that the owners owed them against such, saying any one who did that was in contradiction of the law.

Mr Tsogwane also advised Mopipi residents to renew their identity cards three months before expiry date to avoid congestion at Civil and National Registration offices.

On other issues, the Vice President condemned tendencies by some parents who allowed their children to keep stolen livestock.

In addition, he stated that there were only two settlements in Boteti West that were not yet electrified, explaining that government was working round the clock to ensure that they were electrified.

The Vice President was responding to the Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Golesamang Mogolodi, who had complained that Basarwa community in Mopipi did not have identity cards, noting that some people confiscated them claiming that they were owed.

Mr Mogolodi also complained that all schools in Mopipi from primary to junior school were prone to floods.

He also requested two social welfare officers in Mopipi and a police post, which they had since been promised.

One of the residents, Mr Unangoni Ngalang said veterinary cordon fences were dilapidated and were taking long to be maintained, citing fears that they might cause diseases to spread.

Mr Mothoemang Sebetwane said some officers took a list of companies that could be engaged for constituency funding projects, but they were never engaged.

In response deputy district agricultural coordinator, Mr Gwilisani Maposa said funds had been disbursed to undertake maintenance of Veterinary Cordon Fences in Nata.

He stated that Chai/Mokobaxane cordon fences would be maintained at a tune of P300 000. ENDS
