Struizendum to receive electricity extension
27 May 2018
Struizendum is one of the villages that the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, in conjunction with Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), are considering for the extension of existing electricity during the current financial year.
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso told Ntlo ya Dikgosi that at the moment, BPC was assessing villages for extension of existing electricity network and construction of new electricity grid for villages that are not electrified or connected.
She said the exercise involved mapping and designing.
Kgosi Isaac Titus had asked if the minister would consider including Struizendam amongst villages which would be approved for electricity grid supply expansion in the financial year 2018/19.
Meanwhile, responding to another question from Kgosi Galeakanye Modise of Tswapong Region, Ms Tshireletso said the delay in the amendment of Bogosi Act was attributed to the slow turnaround time from consultation to drafting between the Attorney General’s Chambers and the ministry.
Kgosi Modise had asked the minister to explain the delay in the amendment of the Bogosi Act.
Still in the house, Ms Tshireletso said the Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs had an office in Mogoditshane, but that it was closed due to security reasons.
She said the ministry had not budgeted to re-open the Mogoditshane office but would consider doing so in future.
Ms Tshireletso said the ministry continued to provide Omang services to Mogoditshane and surrounding areas through outreach programmes. ENDS
