PRISONS EXECUTES MURDER CONVICT

The Botswana Prisons Service has executed Uyapo Poloko, 37, of Ndzinge Ward in Senyawe village in the North East District early this morning (May 25) at Gaborone Central Prison. A press release from the prisons service states that the execution follows a death sentence, which was imposed on Poloko by the Francistown High Court on July 28, 2015 for murder.

Poloko was convicted for both robbery and murder of Vijeyadeyi Kandavaranam in 2010 at Ntshe location in Francistown as well as attempting to kill the deceased’s her husband, Balasingnam Kandavaranam.

He received a death penalty for murder and sentenced to 12 years and 10 years for attempted murder and robbery respectively. Poloko later appealed the judgment but was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on February 2 this year. ENDS
