Ministry to address office shortage

24 May 2018

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development plans to build 20 more tribal administration offices this financial year in an effort to address the acute shortage of such offices countrywide, says Ms Botlogile Tshireletso.

Responding to a Ntlo ya Dikgosi question on May 22, Ms Tshireletso, who is the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said 30 tribal administration offices were constructed across the country during the 2016/17 financial year under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).

The 20 offices planned for the 2018/19 financial year would also be constructed under ESP, she said. She said her ministry would continue to consider customary courts that had no offices.

She however stated that her ministry had no budgetary provision under the current financial year to procure porta cabins for Tsabong kgotla.

She pointed out that procurement of porta cabins had proven not to be cost effective given their cost as well as lifespan.

Kgosi David Toto of Kgalagadi South region had asked the minister if she would consider providing the Tsabong kgotla with porta cabins while awaiting the extension of the offices in order for tribal administration officers to be accommodated in one area. ENDS
