Police nab trio for power cable theft

Police in Boteti have caught three people in possession of power cables suspected to be stolen.
The trio is believed to have also pending cases with Letlhakane police were on April 20, caught with power cables worth over P800 000.
According to senior superintendent Sarah Gabathuse of district no 8 policing area, the three men with ages ranging from 32 to 36 years were arrested at Leshibitse on their way to Gaborone carrying power cables.
Snr Supt Gabathuse said the men allegedly stole the cables on April 19 and stashed them in the boot of their car.
She stated the three had pending cases with the police, noting that some were identified as culprits in a stock theft case involving over 100 small stock in Boteti .
On other issues, Snr Supt Gabathuse said rape cases were escalating in Boteti, noting that there were more cases April this year than last year with eight cases recorded last year and 10 this year.
Statistics indicate that from January to April 2017 there were 35 rape cases, while January to April this 31 cases were reported in Boteti. Snr Supt Gabathuse said the perpetrators attacked their victims during the dark while others dragged them to nearby bushes.
Most of the people she said were attacked by strangers and by boyfriends or people they knew.
She noted that leaving entertainment places at night unaccompanied was not safe.
She implored members of the public to tighten security in their homes. ENDS
