Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo says his organisation is conducting a restructuring process.
Speaking in a press briefing on Tuesday, Mfolo said the restructuring was necessitated by the fact that the wage bill for the federation was not prudent in assisting them to achieve their objectives.
“Whatever we were getting from Botswana National Sports Commission as grant was going to the secretariat salaries. You can imagine if that is the case how are we going to cater for the national teams and all other matters relating to the federation,” he said.
Furthermore, Mfolo said the federation had found it practical to restructure, adding that expectations were that from April 1 they would be leaner and starting on a new leaf.
He said they were guided by the Employment Act and that they were constantly in contact with the abour office and Botswana National Sports Commission to guide them.
In other issues, Mfolo who attended the CAF symposium and summit to talk specifically about women football, said the propagation on women football in Botswana has been escalated to the regions.
He said Gaborone, Mochudi, Chobe, Kweneng, Tswapong, Selebi Phikwe, Boteti, Ghanzi, Southern and Francistown Regional Football Associations had already started their leagues.
He said the BFA has taken the decision that from the operations budget they get from FIFA, they would channel 15 per cent of the budget to women football, adding that the intervention was meant to help them with equipment, payment of match officials and all other logistics that the regions incur.
“Our mandate still remains that we must ensure that women can access the game, and as BFA we strongly believe that it can be followed, as it is in compliance with FIFA operations and adoptions that we expect to come from the symposium that was held in Morocco,” he said.
Furthermore, Mfolo said they would be announcing a major sponsorship for women football, adding that they had already concluded negotiations with the potential sponsor.
Taking about issues discussed at the women symposium, he said it expanded on amongst others practice of women football, developing the technical formation of trainers, referees and instructors development of sponsorship for women’s football. Ends
