Officer commanding for No.15 district, Senior Superintendent, Kabo Badirwang says Tutume policing area has recorded the highest number of murder cases.
Giving an overview of crime during a one-day community mobilisation workshop in Senete recently, he said for the period 2016, it showed that Tutume recorded 11 murder cases, while at the end of 2017, the cases stood at 14.
By the end of January this year, he said three cases had been registered.
He said six police stations Nata, Sowa, Masunga, Tshesebe, Francistown and Tutume make up District No.15.
With such high number of murder cases, he noted that the police had started mobilising the community by putting in place preventative measures.
He pointed out that compared to other areas where most murder cases were passion killings, in the area the incidents involved people of the same sex, mostly men.
Among the perpetrators, he said were illegal immigrants working illegally and employed by Batswana.
Senior Superintendent Badirwang said two young illegal immigrants identified as siblings, killed one another over a mobile phone. The two, he noted were employed illegally by a Motswana farmer.
Such incidences, he added had prompted them to introspect and come up with strategies, which involved the community on how best they could prevent such incidents from happening.
“It is through community intervention that we can manage to control these incidents,” he said.
For her part, retired court president, Ms Ludo Mosojane said the community should look into reviving the importance of Botho adding that parents should take their role and not be afraid of cautioning their children.
Today, she said youth want to dictate what needed to be done and how it should be done according to their dictated terms.
She said the the authority should instill order within the society. Ends
