13 Feb 2018

Music industry experts, promoters and artistes thronged Greenberry Gardens in Gaborone recently to witness the beautiful talent of Diva Vebrok at her listening session of her latest single titled Ke mokgatla.

Having been in the music industry for over 12 years and based in South Africa, Diva Vebrok, born Kgalalelo Brooks still takes pride in being Motswana wa Mokgatla from Mochudi.

Ke mokgatla is a song where she expresses her pride and contentment with being ‘Motswana wa sekei’ despite being confused for being white or of mixed origin due to her light-coloured skin.

Her friends and supporters in the music industry described Diva not only as an astute business woman of note, but also a great musician who has conquered the industry as well as developed and paved a way for many successful artistes.

They also said that her optimism, hard work and determination has made her remain relevant in the industry despite the ever-changing music business, where there is always new artistes trending, who give competition to current ones.

Former BOMU President, Nkgopolang Tlhomelang said Vebrok was an ‘icon who makes a statement and is hard to ignore’.

He said she was not  just a noble musician, but very humble and kind; the qualities he said have made her sustain her relevance in the music industry.

Dubbed ‘Botswana’s diva of the music industry’ by vice president of Botswana Independent Promoters Association (BIPA) Shima Monageng, Vebrok earned this title for having showed positive attitude, commitment and perseverance in her music career despite the horrific challenges she has faced.

She was also endorsed as ambassador of BOMU on the night.

Born in Mochudi, but bred in South Africa, Diva Vebrok started singing at a tender age at Sunday school.

She later joined her Uncle’s band as a lead vocalist, but went solo and recorded her first album titled how can I kill.

She further released two more albums Thusa and Shopping. ENDS
