05 Feb 2018

Police have arrested two suspects in the murder of a 28-year-old man of Tsholofelo location in Gaborone who is believed to have been murdered in the early hours of January 17.

Botswana Police Service deputy public relations officer, Senior Superintendent Near Bagali confirmed in an interview that two suspects were arrested in Gaborone last week on Thursday (February 1) and Friday (February 2), and that they appeared before the Gaborone Village Magistrate Court yesterday (February 5).

The two accused are Zimbabwean nationals, both aged 28 and have been remanded in custody while police investigations continue.

In a previous interview with Gaborone West Police Station commander, Superintendent Howard Modo confirmed that they received a report at around 5.30am from someone who was jogging along the KT Motsete Road that he had found a lifeless body of a man next to the bus/taxi stop adjacent to the Zion Christian Church near Molapo Crossing Mall.

He said the police rushed to the scene and found a motionless man with stab wounds on the chest.

He said they took him to Princess Marina Hospital where he was certified dead by medical doctors.

Supt. Modo said they were able to identify the man through his national identity card (Omang) and student card which he was carrying, and that he was a third year student at Botswana Accountancy College (BAC).

He said preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was waiting for taxis at the bus stop, and was approached by a group of thugs who robbed him and that he tried to resist and ended up following them into the nearby dark thicket where he was stabbed, but managed to drag himself back to the bus stop.
