30 Jan 2018

Four men suspected of robbing government revenue of over P300 000 on January 3 were arraigned before Molepolole senior magistrate, Ms Lindiwe Makgoro to face a single count of robbery

The four Letsibogoudi Ntshoto, Phomolo Nkwe, Gofaone Ramashi and Tsogo Semadi aged between 21 and 27 of Mochudi and Gabane allegedly broke into Molepolole revenue offices and stole P383 325.55 in the safe.

The accused persons on the early hours of January 4 with a common purpose broke into Molepolole revenue office stealing over P300 000 allegedly using explosives to access the money.

One of the suspects, Semadi received treatment after he sustained a fractured leg following a scuffle with police upon arrest in Gaborone.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Uyapo Koketso pleaded for an extension of the accused’s remand warrant to allow the police to carry their investigations without interference.

Assistant Superintendent Koketso also argued that police had not yet been able to recover the money, and that one of the suspects was still on the run.

Ntshoto had pleaded for his release arguing that he was just a suspect and releasing him would not jeopardise the prosecutions case, as he was not in anyway related to some suspected individuals.

Nkwe, Ramashi and Semadi also pleaded for bail stating that they were citizens and would always ensure that they abided by bail conditions set by the court.

They reportedly tied security officers at the Department of Roads and Transport Service and that of Revenue services before they entered the building. They are also suspected to be connected to various offences ranging from robbery to house breaking.

They will appear again for mention on February 05. Ends
