Man remanded for threat to kill

18 Jan 2018

A 23-year old man of Betesankwe has been remanded in custody for a charge of threat to kill and damage to property.

Mogomotsi Gaafiwe is reported to have torn Baboloki Bokala’s clothes and threatened to kill her on January 10, 2018 in Betesankwe.

The two were in a love relationship at the time.

Gaafiwe appeared before Jwaneng magistrate court on January 17 and was denied bail.

The investigating officer Detective Constable Ontiretse Tau told the court that the accused person committed these offences after Bokala decided to end their relationship prompted by verbal and physical abuse he visited on her.

He said the plaintiff had invited the accused mother to accompany her to collect her clothes from the accused’s house where the two lovers stayed.

He said the accused’s mother then called him (accused) to his grandparents’ place where they had a meeting.

Gaafiwe reportedly got angry and stormed out upon hearing of his girlfriend’s plans.

He apparently went back to his house where he then tore his girlfriend’s clothes with a knife.

The complainant, who was accompanied by her brother, later found her clothes in rags upon their arrival at Gaafiwe’s place.

Constable Tau said that Bokala stated that on her way back home she met the accused who then threatened to kill her.

“The complainant said the accused had said these words to her; if you do not relocate from Betesankwe I will kill you. Me and you should never cross paths,” said Constable Tau.

The detective told the court that after looking for the accused person in vain, he was handed in by his mother on January 12.

However, the accused denied that he had threatened the complainant and told the court that she lied against him since she wanted to get rid of him after finding a new partner.

The magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in custody. He said if granted bail, the accused could fulfil his agenda as evidenced by his rage described before court.

He will appear for mention on January 31, 2017. ENDS
