Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) president, Botsang Tshenyego says their first 100 days in office were a success. 

The new committee was elected last year and Tshenyego said their transition was smooth as the majority of board members were in the previous committee. 

He said they have had a smooth hand over and have also gone through induction as well as training.

He said the 100 days’ milestone was an international practice to recognise, commemorate and demonstrate to different stakeholders that the organisation had deliver on its promises.

In the past, he said they had been biased towards games at the expense of the core business of the movement, which was promotion of Olympism spirit.

“You will acknowledge that we started the year with training of trainers, a programme known as Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP). That’s already demonstrates that we are indeed living true to our promises as a board,” he said.

Talking about governance, he said as a board they had already set a motion to review their constitution to bring it in line with international best practices as it had been overtaken by time.

Also, to improve transparency and accountability, he noted that they had decided to include national federation members in the board.

“We have also agreed to discuss how we are going to evaluate performance, something that is also very new. And we believe will add value to this movement.

We have to be able to look back and say, given our strategy and certain things relating to core business of the movement, are we delivering as board in terms of strategy and policy?”.

Tshenyego said they had recently undertaken a very intensive assessment that was designed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), to determine their level of governance.

Though they have not received feeback from IOC, he said they were on the right track. ENDS
