Murder cases escalating in Boteti

Police in Boteti have expressed concern at the alarming rate of murder cases related to binge drinking and love affairs.

According to Superintendent Livingstone Mado, cases registered in 2016 stood at 11 in 2017 and escalated to 16 and in 2018 one case was registered.

Superintendent Mado stated that majority of the cases involved women as victims and were in most instances killed by their partners whilst men got killed at drinking spots by their drinking mates.

The perpetrators he said usually attacked their victims with knives and committed suicide afterwards.

He cited a case where a  man got killed by his wife and her boyfriend in Mopipi, and in another case a policeman was shot to death through the use of a stolen shot gun and the suspect committed suicide with the same gun.

Police in Boteti have expressed grievous concern with regard to the cases and had appealed to members of the public to seek help from relevant authorities.

On other issues Superintendent Mado said they have also experienced an increase in road accidents, as they registered five in 2016, 16 in 2017 and one in 2018.

According to statistics seven died and 44 suffered critical injuries in 2016, in 2017 23 died and 29 were critically injured as well as one fatal case in 2018.  ENDS
