My Star 2017 winner Odirile “Fish” Banthusitse has received a Honda fit car as a gift from his tribesmen Barolong for making them proud by winning My Star competition last year.
Fish received the gift on January 4 at the kgotla when he was welcomed and celebrated for winning the title.
Speaking in an interview, he said it was an honour to be celebrated where he came from.
“It is something that doesn’t happen to people more often and therefore I feel humbled,” he said.
He said failing to win the competition when he first entered in 2015 did not discourage him.
“I’m passionate about music and anything good is worth trying,” he said.
He encouraged those passionate about music to participate in the upcoming My Star auditions.
The quote which he said kept him going during difficult times was “all the things you ever wanted are in the other side of fear.”
He advised aspiring artistes not to fear but soldier on to achieve their dreams.
About future plans, he assured the community that he would continue singing and said he saw himself in popular television stations around Africa and the globe.
Having been raised in church, he said that was what made him who he was today.
Fish who also received kitchen appliances from the organisers of the event thanked everyone who made him a hero and assured them that he would not in anyway disappoint but would forever maintain a good character.
My Star founder, Keabetswe Sesinyi also known as Master Dee thanked Barolong for hosting such an event for Fish.
He said it was motivating him to carry on about the project.
He noted that ever since the inception of the show, 20 youth had benefitted to attend universities and while some had secured jobs in South Africa and Botswana.
He advised the community to embrace My Star instead of despising it because it was unearthing talents.
Area Member of Parliament, Kgosi Lotlaamoreng Montshioa said he was humbled by the talent that Fish had.
He applauded the community and the family for buying him the car and said he hoped he would take good care of it.
He also applauded the community for the teamwork they displayed when preparations for Fish’s welcome were done.
He said Fish has made Good Hope shine and wished all a happy new year and also advised his community to trust in the Lord and continue praising him. ENDS
