Rollers to support youth

07 Jan 2018

Sankoyo Bush Bucks talented striker Vincent 'Pedro' Lekorwe is eyeing a move to promotion-chasing South Africa National First Division (NFD) side Jomo Cosmos.

The 23-year-old forward, who is on loan from BTC Premiership champions Township Rollers, went for assessment at the Johannesburg-based side during the festive break.

Rollers spokesperson, Bafana Pheto confirmed last week that the player was training with Cosmos with a view to signing on the dotted line.

“He has been training with Jomo Cosmos during the festive period. They were assessing him and we will see if they are interested in him. We won't stand in his way if Cosmos want to sign him,” Pheto said in an interview on January 5.

Lekorwe was promoted to the Rollers senior team in July 2015 but struggled to nail down a place in then head-coach Mark Harrison's championship winning side that season.

He was subsequently loaned out to Security Systems in the 2016/17 season and later Sankoyo where he has so far scored one league goal.

Regarding Rollers' activity in the just opened mid-season transfer window, Pheto said they were waiting for instructions from head-coach Nikola Kavazovic and his technical team.

“We are waiting for the coach to tell us where he wants to beef up. So far the technical team has not communicated anything regarding the signing of new players,” the Mapalastina spokesperson explained.

Pheto further said contrary to recent speculation, Rollers were not aware of any interest from South Africa for dribbling wizard Tshepo 'Skwama' Matete.

Premier Soccer League sides Amazulu and Chippa United were rumoured to be interested in signing the Katlehong-born player who arrived at Mapalastina on free transfer in July last year.

“Skwama is training with the team as I am speaking with you now. He hasn’t missed any training session and we are not aware of any team wanting to sign him,” he said. ENDS
