Thousands of Gaborone dwellers descended at Dipopolere in Mogobane to welcome the new year with a 30-minute fireworks illuminating the sky.

Dipopolere is an annual music festival that is organised by a group of Mogobane youths every year to welcome the new year in style.

It was now running for the third time in a row. The event, which attracted mostly music lovers, started around 6pm and ended the following morning at 6am.

Dipopolere is regarded by many as one of the top music festivals that welcomes the new year and is a multi-discipline event.

Dj Backs aka Bakang Radikara and Dj Touch aka Kago Rankala were among the many Djs that took the revellers by storm during the whole night with the track My Baby by Lady Zamar.

The Djs experience generated some crazy buzz when they took the stage by storm the whole night and the debut My Baby by Lady Zamar was the best song for the night.

Djs brought extra level of sense-blasting awesomeness to whatever is happening on stage and they elevated the music to a whole other experience that resonates with what people wanted at that moment.

Dj Backs said this year’s event was bigger and better compared to the previous two.

He explained that what is interesting is that they always recorded no criminal activities.

He said though there were sporting activities during the day in the village, it did not deter people to come for the event, adding that ‘the turnout was massive’.

Dj Backs said the event is now becoming huge year by year and that it needs a sponsor to promote it in in order to attract as many people as possible.

He said the music festival is also aimed to afford up and coming artistes, especially Djs from Mogobane and surrounding areas to slug it out and showcase their talent.

Dj Backs  explained that he was concerned that most of them usually enjoyed playing at bars and clubs for free, which would never get them far in life.

He explained that what is interesting mostly is that since its inception, he had received numerous calls from Djs and people outside Gaborone Periphery who wanted to know more about the event.

He said plans are underway to invite artistes across the country in the 2019 event in order to give it more weight.ENDS
