Morobosi festival can promote tourism

04 Jan 2018

Permanent Secretary to the President, Carter Morupisi has implored organisers of Morobosi Music Festival to use it as a platform to promote cultural tourism in Tswapong region.

He also told them to bear in mind the economic boost the country enjoyed from the tourism sector.

Speaking at Morobosi music festival at Raselwana farm near Manaledi on January 1, Morupisi said that the event benefitted residents economically since some saw it as an opportunity to sell food among other items.

Morupisi said it was pleasing that the event was organised by young people from Tswapong, which showed that the region had visionary young people capable of leading.

He also expressed his delight that the event was held during the festive season when those working in other places were available to take part and most importantly join families and friends.

The event, he said, brought communities together to celebrate their identity and strengthen ties while having a good time with friends and families.

He implored the older generation to share with the young ones, their history to ensure preservation of culture for posterity.

Morupisi said he was happy that part of the proceeds from Morobosi 2018 would benefit Manaledi and Gootau village development committees.

He urged all to be determined to do well for their people and the country as all worked together in achieving prosperity for all in 2036. Kgosi Batwaetse Mapulane explained that the name Morobosi was derived from a sacred pond in Matolwane in the Tswapong region. .

The purpose of the event, she said, was to promote preservation of intangible heritage of Batswapong.

She said Tswapong region had a rich culture and history that needed to be known by people from other areas. Kgosi Mapulane urged Batswapong to come together and take their culture to greater heights.

One of the event organisers, Othusitse Makgoro said the event continued to grow as witnessed by hundreds of youth and elders from different areas who thronged the festival, now synonymous with the area.

He appealed to Botswana Tourism Organisation to help them market the festival, which had grown over the years from being only for music enthusiasts to a tourism event.ENDS
