Police official urges security companies to work together

Botswana Police Senior Assistant Commissioner for  northern division, Cynthia Setilo has urged local security companies to work together in curbing criminal activities during the festive season.

Francistown recently, Ms Setilo  stressed the importance of collaboration amongst local service providers, saying it was key as they work towards one common goal; of fighting crime.

G4S Security regional operations manager - north, Ms Mareledi Botipeng encouraged security companies to subcontract other companies where they felt they could not deliver.

Ms Botipeng said it was crucial for companies to complement one another.

“It is not every security company that will offer all the services required by the client, therefore it is vital that we work together,” she said.

Ms Botipeng further noted that it was imperative that the working conditions of security guards were conducive for them to carry out their duties diligently.

She pleaded with managers to ensure that security officers had shelters, ablution rooms and water in their places of work.

Head of Investigations at Security Services Botswana, Mr Thabo Medupe advised that security companies conduct proper training of officers upon appointment.

“Train them and teach them how to conduct proper patrols. It is important that they know the environment they work in,” he said

Earlier in his welcome remarks, Botswana Police Assistant Commissioner Seabe Maboka stated that Francistown residents and surrounding areas depended on security providers to protect them and their properties.

Giving the objectives of the pitso, Assistant Commissioner of Police – Divisional CID Officer - North, Oabitsa Rankwaila noted that as the year ends, many cases of offices being broken into and robberies in schools were recorded.

She stated that the Botswana Police Service intended to work very closely with security companies to fight crime over the holidays. ENDS
