North West District councillors gave Juliet Sango, who was crowned the 5th Miss RADP beauty queen in a glittering ceremony in Gaborone on December 9, a standing ovation as they ushered her to the top table to sit next to the council chairperson. .

The 19-year-old from Khwai, together with Renate Amos from Tobera settlement in the Okavango District, represented the district at the national finals.

Sango was given a warm welcomed at the ongoing full council meeting and some councillors and council staff ushered her to the top table.

As she walked like a queen to the top table in elegant attire, the house screamed in ululations, melodies and clapping of hands until she took her seat.

The queen was given the opportunity to share her roadmap with the district leaders, and she said it had been her ambition to be the ambassador of the Rural Area Dwellers, adding that during her reign, she would see to it that settlement dwellers lived their dreams.

Sango revealed that she intended to engage district leaders in order to ensure that issues affecting the youth in settlements were addressed.

Earlier on, senior assistant council secretary, Mogomotsi Seemule proudly informed the house that the district had been doing exceptionally well since the inception of the Miss RADP pageant, as the district had already had five queens in different levels.

The district, she noted, had won the title in five consecutive years, adding that for the three years of 2013, 2014 and 2017, contestants from the district were crowned queens, while in 2015 and 2016, they got position two and three respectively.

“Beauty has never been described because beauty is just it. All could see that the journey of RADP is better described by us because we have never lost in the competitions,” she added.

Seemule also informed the leadership that in this year’s competition, both Sango and Amos were amongst the top five and she commended them for a job well done and representing the district well.

She described Sango as a responsible, multi-talented young lady, adding that she presented herself well as she was confident in every activity they were assigned to undertake.

The objective of the Miss RADP pageant is to boost the confidence and self esteem of participants as well as to impart knowledge to them and dispel the myth that there is no talent in remote areas.

The competition is not only a display of beauty, but a pageant in which RADP culture is represented. The pageant also helps young women to play the unique roles of a woman effectively. ENDS
