Investigations on MYESCD death complete

14 Dec 2017

On December 4, a tragic incident occurred at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, which claimed the life of a 20-year-old Zimbabwean female citizen, Ashelin Manjeya.

It was alleged that she fell from the seventh floor and was rushed to hospital, where she was certified dead on arrival.

The police immediately instituted investigations to determine the cause of the incident and the resultant death of the deceased.

A press release from Botswana Police deputy public relations officer, Senior Superintendent Near Bagali states that investigations have been completed and the family of the deceased have been informed of the findings.

It further states that it is not common practice for Botswana Police Service to publicise findings of the police investigations, but for speculations and innuendos made in social media regarding this incident, the police found it necessary to make public the result of this particular investigation.

It states that the investigations revealed that Ms Manjeya committed suicide and that there was no foul play.

Her visit to MYSCD, the release reads, was purely to execute her suicidal thoughts, which were carried out.

The investigations further revealed that the deceased neither knew anyone nor was she known at the ministry.

She also did not visit to seek any form of assistance offered by the ministry.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who assisted and cooperated with us during the investigations. The police would also like to warn social media users in general to be mindful and sensitive of their postings as this can put them in trouble,” it reads. ENDS
