Benchmarking to power show
09 Jul 2013
Benchmarking from the just ended Ghanzi Show will help transform the upcoming Kgalagadi Show, public relations officer (Agriculture) for Tsabong region, Mr Peter Manguba has said.
Mr Maguba says this is because a delegation comprising agricultural demonstrators and the show organising committee was drilled on how to attract investors amongst other things.
He conceded that before going on the benchmarking exercise, Tsabong show organisers had little knowledge of the importance of the agricultural show. “There is a lot to be showcased. The best selected small stock will compete, and the same model will be incorporated for cattle. The best will be made to compete at a show to be held in Gaborone to represent our region,” he said.
Mr Manguba said although arable farming does not suit the dry conditions in Kgalagadi, the best harvest for this year will be showcased.
He advised farmers to plant crops from the legume family, which produce better yields in the region. He also informed farmers that during the next planting season, maize seeds will not be dispensed to ISPAAD beneficiaries as the crop is susceptible to failure in the region.
In addition, he urged farmers to take great strides to incorporate the utilisation of modern farming methods and commitment to rear and farm for commercial sale. ENDS
