The 14th edition of Bifm Traditional Music Expo held at Botswanacraft on December 7 has proved to be still popular and improving with time as its demand is exceeding expectations and having culture enthusiasts thronging it.
Speaking at the event, Bifm chief executive officer, Neo Bogatsu said the traditional expo created a platform for artists that they solely deserve.
She called for more companies to come on board and be part of the event, so that more community members could filter in and enjoy the night away in a stylish, traditional way.
“I would like those that have continued to support this initiative to continuing doing so and thank you very much for supporting our local artists,” she said.
All the artists that performed among them Charma Gal, Ditiro, Matsieng, Ramonyaku, Moreri Moroka and Nkokowe Band and Gata La Tau Traditional Dance Troupe all impressed and were the toast of the night.
Equally captivating were the attendees who were dressed in their best traditional attire and all guests were treated to a traditional three course Setswana meal.
The menu consisted of local delicacies such as bogobe jwa lerotse, seswaa, letlhodi, koko ya Setswana, legapu and morogo wa Setswana.
As people made their way in, they were treated to serobe and magwinya along with ginger beer (gemere) and Amarula, whilst enjoying a performance by Gata La Tau Traditional Dance Troupe.
The annual event invests in local culture by giving renowned traditional musicians a platform to showcase their talent.
The performances are also aimed at increasing and promoting national pride in local music, dance and cuisine.
Former Bifm CEO, Tiny Kgatlhwane has in the past during one of those events said the organisation had set aside funds in the form of the BIHL Trust which invests in initiatives that support communities.
“It is our duty as an organisation to give back to our community. We are a proudly Botswana company, and what better way to celebrate this than by supporting talent in the country of our origin,” said Kgathwane.
The BIHL Trust was established to identify and support worthwhile initiatives in the local arena.
Event organiser, Losika Seboni indicated that through the support of Bifm, they had been able to grow the Bifm Traditional Expo exponentially, giving even more local artists the necessary platform and exposure to international opportunities through the high profile guests that grace the event annually.
