Mogoditshane police have arrested a middle aged man who allegedly killed a cab driver and dumped his lifeless body on the banks of Segoditshane River on November 29.
Mogoditshane Station Commander, Superintendent Agreement Mapeu, said the suspect was alleged to have killed the cab driver at around 5:55am. Mapeu said the suspect was yet to be arraigned before court for a charge of murder.
He said the suspect’s girlfriend reported the case to the police alleging that her boyfriend was the killer.
The woman then assisted the police to locate and arrest the suspect. According to the police, the woman is alleged to have phoned the deceased asking to transport the couple to an undisclosed destination in Gaborone.
On the way, the suspect allegedly demanded some cash from the deceased whereupon a fight ensued. The deceased is alleged to have been hit from behind and fell unconscious.
The police said the suspect and his girlfriend allegedly loaded his body into the boot of his car and drove off to Segoditshane River.
Upon arrival, the suspect discovered that the man was still alive.
He allegedly used a knife to end his life and dumped his lifeless body on the river banks. Meanwhile, BOPA was yet to establish whether charges would be laid against the suspect's girlfriend after preliminary investigations revealed that she might have also played a part in the murder.
The body of the deceased is at Princess Marina Hospital awaiting post mortem.
The suspect hails from Kanye while his girlfriend resides at Extension 16 in Gaborone. This is not the first case of a cab driver who was killed this way. Two men are currently facing a murder charge before Gaborone High Court for the 2013 killing of Mr Vincent Mopipi, a cab driver with Deluxe Cabs. BOPA
