Police shoot kill Legae
27 Nov 2017
Police on Saturday (November 25) shot and killed Adollphius Legae of Kanye following an exchange of fire with him in Block 6.
Police had been looking for Legae, aged 24, for various criminal offences including robbery, rape and attempted murder that he and his accomplices committed since 2016.
He skipped bail and escaped to South Africa, where he was arrested and was later reported to have escaped from lawful custody this month, while awaiting extradition to Botswana.
Botswana Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Dipheko Motube confirmed the death of Legae adding that a handgun and life ammunition were recovered from the deceased.
He also explained that a 33-year-old woman of Block 6 is likely to be charged for harbouring Legae.
It is a serious offence under the laws of Botswana to harbour a wanted person.
On other issues, Motube appealed to the general public to be active during the 60 days against crime and road safety.
The 60 days campaign reinforces the message that ‘the best approach is none’, reminding motorists that even if you are slightly over the limit, in the eyes of the law you are a drunk driver and it is wrong.
He also said this time of the season was also synonymous with a lot of money circulation and thieves take advantage of the situation to rob people off their valuable goods.
Assistant commissioner Motube advised Batswana to be law abiding citizens and make sure to take care of the security of their goods and properties during Christmas holidays.
Meanwhile, a nine-year-old girl of Thebe Primary School who was allegedly raped and killed by her mother’s ex-boyfriend was buried over the weekend in Gaborone under a very intense atmosphere.
The incident happened last week when the mother was not home.
The mother reported the matter to the police after she discovered that her child was missing.
The child was later found and was rushed to Princess Marina Hospital where she was certified dead. The suspect, who is in police custody, will appear for another mention on December 8. BOPA
