Court arraigns suspect

16 Nov 2017

A man suspected to have murdered his 23-year-old girlfriend on the night of November 10 was arraigned before Molepolole senior magistrate, Ms Lindiwe Makgoro recently.

Twenty-seven-year-old, Gabriel Motsisi, a labourer at Ross Breeders of Legotlhong ward in Molepolole allegedly murdered Boitumelo Kegopotswe, inflicting multiple wounds on her through the use of a sharp instrument.

The 23-year-old woman, who works for Stocksure Holdings, a cleaning company at Scottish Livingstone Hospital, was murdered in front of children aged three, four and nine including her son.

The suspect and the victim were before the incident brought before the police for reconciliation but the suspect went on and murdered the woman after the meeting.

The victim’s family spokesperson, Mr Apeba Kegopotswe said in an interview that they were in shock as they were still mourning the loss of the deceased’s mother, Khutsafalo Kegopotswe, who was also murdered some two months ago at the very family’s home by her husband.

The uncle further expressed disappointment at the manner in which the case was handled.

He said there was evidence that the suspect was still agitated after a meeting at the police and the victim was left to go on her own.

“We were not aware of the relationship between the two as it was not formally introduced but got to to know after things had gone sour,” he said.

Meanwhile, Molepolole station commander Charles Mbengwa confirmed the incident, saying  investigations were at an infant stage.

He confirmed the victim was certified dead upon arrival at Scottish Livingstone Hospital with multiple stab wounds of a suspected sharp instrument.

He further admitted the fact that the two were earlier brought together at Molepolole police station an hour before the incident for mediation purposes.

He said the suspect later surrendered himself to Molepolole Police station, where he is currently detained.

The accused will appear again for mention on November 27, while the victim’s burial is planned for Sunday. BOPA
