Officer Commanding for District No. 5 Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela says Maun police are investigating a store break-in and theft incident that happened in Gumare in which about P36 000 worth of cash and goods had been stolen.
In an interview, Senior Supt. Gochela said the thieves forced entry into a filling station in Gumare and blasted the safe and stole P27 000 cash, R3 150 cash, a computer worth P3 600 and cigarettes packets on the night of November 8.
He said police investigations were continuing and they were on the look-out for four suspects. He however said one man was helping the police with investigations.
The store manager said he realised that the store was broken into on the morning of November 9 while the security officer who was supposedly on duty, failed to account for his whereabouts when the incident occurred.
Senior Supt. Gochela encouraged business people to be vigilant since robbers did not pounce once but did a visit prior to carrying out the deed.
He also said it was vital for business people to avoid keeping lump sums of money in business premises but to utilise banking services daily since even employees could not be trusted.
Maun Police are also investigating the death of a two-year-old child. Assistant Superintendent Borefeletse Papane of Maun police said four children aged two years were left under the custody of a 22-year-old family member at Maruleng cattlepost near Nxaraga settlement by their grandfather on November 11.
Assistant Supt. Papane said the woman is a mother to one of the hospitalised children.
He said it was reported that the woman saw three of the four children with white foam in their mouths and took two of the children to Nxaraga Health post, where one child was certified dead.
Assistant Supt Papane said the police took the remaining two sick children to Letsholathebe Hospital where they were awaiting tests by health professionals to establish the cause of their condition. BOPA
