Losolebe murder investigations close

09 Nov 2017

Gaborone Extension II Magistrate Court has been informed that investigations in the murder of Maria Losolebe sometime in July this year in Tlokweng have been completed.

Updating the court during regular mention on November 7, Inspector Lesego Kgosiemang of Broadhurst Police Station, who was holding fort for Assistant Superintendent Tlotlang Balatlhwa, said investigations had been completed and that the docket had been forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for assessment.

Inspector Kgosiemang noted that upon completion of the assessment the case would be assigned an officer for possible trial at the High Court.

He therefore applied for further remand of the accused, who will appear again on November 21.

Kediemetse Mogotsi is alleged to have strangled his girlfriend, Losolebe on July 3 at their rented house shortly after she arrived home from a spent away night.

It is alleged that he sole-handedly buried her in a grave, which they had dug together the previous day in an adjacent house.

He had told the police that he waited for dusk to set before burying her and sealed the grave with concrete.

Recently, Magistrate Batho Kgerethwa of Extension II Magistrate Court handed him the bail ruling, which was long delivered by Magistrate Ntombizodwa Ncube, but took some time to be typed due to workload before court reporters.

The accused also stands accused for the 2012 murder of his father and was on bail when he committed the second offence.

He intends to use the ruling in his second attempt to apply for bail at the High Court.

In the past, he had told the magistrate court that his continuous incarceration was denying him the opportunity to provide for his Standard One child and another one from a different mother whom he should register this year to do Standard One next year.

Another problem, Mogotsi said, was that his other child from a different mother should be registered for pre-primary this year so that he could start his Standard One next year and therefore needed his assistance regarding school provisions. ENDS
