 Police have nabbed the notorious armed robbery suspect, Matshelo Motlhabakoko, nicknamed “Babyface” in Molepolole on November 2.  

The police had been on the lookout for him and two others following a recent aborted robbery at Fundex Bureau de Change at Molapo Crossing in Gaborone.

 Motlhabakoko, 26 and two others, Moreri Motseothata, 32 as well as Keorapetse Barakane, 31, are all Molepolole residents.

Motlhabakoko fled the scene during the alleged robbery and the police have been after his trail although he was urged to surrender to the nearest police station.

The trio were all on bail for separate robbery cases that occurred in Gaborone, Metsimotlhabe and Molapowabojang.

Joel Rannoba, 31, who was also arrested on the day, is suspected to be among the gang that terrorises Molepolole, Gaborone and surrounding areas.

Speaking in an interview, Senior Assistant Police Commissioner, Nunu Lesetedi confirmed that “Babyface” and his three associates were apprehended in Molepolole on November 2.

He said arresting the suspects was a huge success since they had been looking for them for some time.

Lesetedi said apprehending the quartet would bring peace and tranquility in the community.

He further said the gang were suspects of several robbery cases among them the Debonnaires robbery case at BBS, Portuguese Chicken restaurant, Saverite at Sikwane and recently Fundex Bureau de Change at Molapo Crossing.

The Assistant Police Commissioner has further warned the public that the suspects were dangerous and armed.

In most cases, he said they robbed their victims using force. He therefore cautioned the public that the gangs surveyed or scouted targeted areas before they rob, hence they should immediately contact the police for any suspicious activity in shopping complexes.

“Babyface” is a suspect in the recent Fundex Bureau de Change in Molapo Crossing where Mogomotsi Thupane and Phenyo Ramaphane were reprimanded. ENDS
