01 Nov 2017

Nineteen-year-old, Laone Meswele has been crowned Kweneng District Miss RADP.

Meswele emerged victorious by  beating 17 other ladies from the seven Rural Area Development Programme settlements of Kweneng District.

Her first and second princesses were Gomolemo Baeseng and Oneilwe Gagothuso aged 19 and 23 respectively, both of Tshwaane in Letlhakeng Sub-district.

The event, which was running for the fifth time in succession, brought young ladies from Khekhenye, Tshwaane, Kaudwane, Sorilatholo Diphuduhudu, Loologane and Kweneng settlements.

The Miss RADP queen, who is a new comer in the pageant, said she was humbled to win the title, and hoped to bring change by advocating for various issues affecting the youth in her area.

Giving a keynote address, the chief executive officer of Collegium Educational Publishers, Lebekwe Mweendo  praised the Kweneng leadership for penetrating RADP settlements and coming up with an initiative aimed at empowering and exposing talent of the Basarwa community.

The Miss RAPD project, Ms Mweendo said, was a flagship programme geared towards promoting the affirmative action framework, and urged beneficiaries to make full use of the privilege aimed at bringing enlightenment.

She raised concern that young people in some districts were not doing enough to utilise opportunities available to succeed in the modern world.

The Collegium Education Publisher CEO further expressed gratitude over government special RADP programmes as it ensured accessibility to resources by Batswana in remote areas.

She challenged communities to take responsibility by supporting and redirecting children taking part in the programme. BOPA
