Designers thrill Cigar Lounge audience

One of Gaborone’s hottest spots, Cigar Lounge in Phakalane recently hosted the Rock Culture event as local designers showcased their products to the appreciation of revelers that thronged the night spot.
The event was themed Recognise African Attire and saw local designers coming in to showcase and sell their products.

According to the founder of the event, Bobby Majest, the fashion show happened last Thursday of every month with different designers selling their fashion lines.

He said for the country to have a successful local economy, it was important for the country, both public and private sector to invest in young professionals who were undoubtedly the future industry leaders.

“The fashion industry is in actual fact one of the ways we can diversify our economy. Harnessing potential of such industries as the creative arts can help us all work towards greater development to allow us to flourish for years to come.

The development of new industries, including fashion has a multiplier effect,” said Majest.

“We must take hold of such potential and support the growth of brilliant local minds who sell Botswana to the world through their artistry,” he continued.

He noted that the business environment in Botswana should encompasses among others creation of a conducive environment, wealth creation, employment creation and economic diversification.

“In line with this, Batswana will take advantage of opportunities that will in turn drive diversification of our economy.

He said the theme of Recognize African Attire is timely and hits at the heart of the matter, which the nation should embrace, make it its own mantra in order to move the country forward.

“Fashion enthusiasts, avid fans and premier business professionals alike can look forward to a stellar display of Botswana’s very own creatives, of a world-class appeal and this happens every last Thursday of every month at Cigar Lounge.” said Majest.

“We are thrilled to provide a platform for local youth to interact with and learn from innovative founders, industry captains and thought leaders with the hope that they will take what they learn and apply themselves to become leaders who contribute to the growth of their own communities and the wider economy,” he said.

He applauded Cigar Lounge for the social responsibility and for giving local designers a great opportunity to market their products. One design house that impressed with their showcase was Pink House owned by Pinky and Gorata who showcased Masai and print designs. BOPA
