15 Oct 2017

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has congratulated Miss Botswana Lisa Gaelebale for having won this year’s edition of the pageant.

President Khama, who was speaking after a tree planting session which followed Gaelebale’s courtesy call at his office on Friday (October 13) also wished her well as she will be representing Botswana at the Miss World pageant billed for Sanya, China in November.

Concurring with Gaelebale that each tree planted represented a dream, the President said his two wishes were for Miss Botswana to bring home the Miss World title, and that the country managed to attain its 2036 ideal of prosperity for all.

For her part, Gaelebale explained that the tree planting project, dubbed A Million Trees, A Million Dreams, would run until the year 2036.

She said each of the one million trees that would be planted would represent a dream; pointing out that her own dream was to win the Miss World pageant.

On the ‘Believe’ campaign, under which the ‘A Million Trees, A Million Dreams’ project fell, Gaelebale said she strongly believed in people living their dreams. She said she believed that with every person being different from the next person, it was essential that each person remained true to who they actually were.

Botswana Council of Women president Francinah Ramatlhakwane who accompanied Miss Botswana to the Office of the President, expressed optimism that given her caliber, Gaelebale would bring home the Miss World crown.

She said being persevering and humble would set Gaelebale apart from other aspirants for the crown.

Ramatlhakwane said in addition to Miss Botswana’s tree planting project, Gaelebale had also taken part in the building of a one-roomed house for a destitute person in Malolwane. BOPA
