Six men who are part of the recently arrested gang of 21 men alleged to be terrorising people in and around Gaborone this week appeared before Broadhurst Magistrate Court to answer for two counts of robbery.
They flatly denied involvement in the crime.
In the first count, accused Phenyo Kgabonngwe, Nicolas Sibanda, Mmusi Ntshaba, Thato Gosejwang, Boitshoko Chepete and Atang Kgoreletso are alleged to have, on the night of August 28, 2017 at or near Nandos in Mogoditshane, robbed Sakarea Rebaone of a black Samsung Tab 3 Lite cellphone valued at P2 800 and P700 cash using violence.
In the second count, the six men still on the same night at or near Trans Wholesale in Mogoditshane robbed Thabiso Kgongwana of a black Huawei cellphone valued at P850 using violence.
Prosecutor inspector Tsogo Rantopa of Mogoditshane Police Station in the meantime told magistrate, Ms Wame Mosugelo, who was holding fort for chief magistrate, Ms Faith Dlamini-N’gandu, that investigations in the matter were still ongoing and therefore asked that they be further remanded.
He told the fully packed court that the accused were also linked to a spate of robbery incidents that have been happening in and around Mogoditshane.
Responding to the accused’s question as to when investigations would be finished, inspector Rantopa said he could not state with certainty when they would be finished, noting that nobody was forced to admit to having committed the alleged offense.
They will appear for another mention on October 5. ENDS
