14 Sep 2017

Tsholo Dikobe, 30, from Thamaga, who is regarded as a fashion artist to follow by Cable News Network (CNN), will feature in an eight episode documentary about the world of fashion.

The beautiful Dikobe is also acknowledged as a fashion pioneer in the local fashion industry.

The Khoi-fro sensation is known for her individuality, confidence and creativity through fashion.

The documentary is set to air in Finland next month or November as a Botswana fashion trail-blazer for Finnish TV, MTV3.

The Finnish commercial television station, owned by the Bonnier Group, started in 1957 and has the biggest audience share of all Finnish TV channels.

MTV stands for Mainos-TV and is a commercial television station due to its advertising for revenue.

Number 3 was added later when the station was allocated a third nationwide channel and became known as channel three.

The crew from MTV3, which consisted of a Finnish female journalist and a male videographer, had a 10-day stay in Botswana, and they camped at the Makgadikgadi Pans to enjoy sunny Botswana.

The purpose of the visit was to explore and expose Botswana as well as to show the world Botswana and Africa that is usually not shown in the international media.

In an interview, Dikobe said the presenter of the show informed her that when she googled Botswana fashion, what popped out first was her name and her colourful images. She said the presenter told her it was just a confirmation because she had been already following her work online.

“I am truly humbled by the recognition and opportunity,” she said, adding that it was another milestone in her fashion career. She also said she hoped the opportunity would open more doors for her and Botswana fashion.

Dikobe said the Finnish interview also gave her the opportunity to share ideas about her work as a fashion artist and stylist as well as fashion journalist.

Dikobe also explained that the Khoi-fro was in essence an ode to an African woman who was rooted in naturalness, individuality, authenticity and wholeness, as she takes pride in her origins and roots.

She said the brand was inspired by the Khoi/Khoisan, a tribe that originated in Southern Africa, and is regarded as the first people to occupy the earth, hunting and gathering for their livelihood, all being an ode to a way of life that perfectly sums up her fashion life.

“Fashion transports me to places I have never been and it’s ever changing for the better, and again a trait that was mastered by the Khoisan,” she said, adding that they were very adaptive in nature and that was what she was aspiring to be in a world that was ever changing.

She added that there was interest in the design aspect of her work by the MTV3 crew, which entailed the mogagolwane collection, and that (GaTsh Fros) won an international award in London  in 2014. ENDS
