Miss Nkange to be bigger better
10 Sep 2017
After the success of Miss Nkange Constituency 2016, the pageant organisers are planning a bigger and better pageant this time around.
According to the event co-coordinator, Omphile Uyapo, this year's event will be held on September 30, which is the country’s 51st Independence Day.
He said there would be 15 ladies aged between 18 and 30, all from Nkange constituency participating.
The pageant started last year as a way of celebrating BOT50 and it is not only about parading beauty as there is a social need addressed through it.
From last year’s event, Uyapo said they built a house at Mabuwe ward in Nkange village for an elderly lady who is taking care of two people living with disabilities.
He said they planned to hand over the house on September 30 or immediately after.
He said one of the objectives of the pageant was to unearth artistic talent amongst Nkange Constituency youth.
Uyapo explained that through the pageant, they encouraged the spirit of volunteerism, self-actualisation and social responsibility.
The pageant coordinator urged the business community and the general public to sponsor or partner with them and that sponsorship could either be in cash or in kind.
As part of the build-up towards the event, they are using various platforms to advertise the event and they have a Facebook page called Miss Nkange Constituency.
The Voice Newspaper has also dedicated a page to advertise the event and they will soon host a car washing session in an effort to raise funds for the pageant.
Except for the reigning queen Chawada Matshware and her princesses, all other previous participants have been allowed to take part.
He further said his hope was that in future, the pageant would produce a participant for big pageants like Miss Botswana, Miss World and Miss Universe.
As a way of empowering the participants, they are to attend a workshop in which they will present a charity project and from the presentations, the judges will select one to be implemented. ENDS
