President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has praised the Kudumatse Village Development Committee (VDC) for raising P165 000 through their housing projects.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Kudumatse on June 27, President Khama urged other VDCs to benchmark from the Kudumatse VDC so as to contribute to the development of their villages.

The VDC chairperson, Mr Odisitse Rebabonye said they had raised P165 000 through their housing initiative though they were still owed P32 000 in rentals.

Mr Rebabonye said the committee would use the money to start a project that would benefit the villagers. Though he was thankful for the electricity in their village, he said the primary school was yet to be electrified.

He also said there was acute shortage of classrooms at the primary school. He noted that there were 624 pupils at the school, adding that some attended classes in the open.

On other issues, he thanked the government for poverty eradication initiatives, green scorpions, Ipelegeng, LIMID and ISPAAD. Through Ipelegeng, he said, 155 people had been engaged, adding that 34 women and four men had been assessed for the poverty eradication initiative.

Central District Council secretary, Mr Gaolathe Dipholo said the primary school would be electrified during the 2013/14 financial year. Meanwhile, President Khama donated 20 chairs for the kgotla, blankets, shirts and jackets. ENDS
