Moroka Moreri Passionate poet

29 Aug 2017

Of recent, Moroka Moreri’s name has been closely associated with Setswana poetry and many who have not yet heard about him personally reciting poems or listened to his recent Setswana poetry album, will be unreservedly excused.

However, with certainty they will in due course, not in afar days to come, hear his poetic songs from his album, Nkokowe, which is currently ruling the airwaves in all the radio stations with gusto.

The album is also in neighbouring countries.

What makes him a perfect choice among others is the way he had arranged his instruments and clear vocals, which are not dwarfed by the instruments.

Moreri, a soft spoken Mokwena tribesman, has been glamouring newspapers of recent most probably because some do not know that he is a born poet and that he is not a new entrant to this poetry genre, but has even written a Setswana poetry book titled Motlhaolosa, which at one point was recommended for junior secondary schools.

A teacher by profession, Moreri’s poetry aptitude has not been escaping the eyes of Bakwena tribesmen and the public in general as he has been invited to many occasions to spice up the mood.

In Kweneng especially

Molepolole, young men still compete amongst themselves at how good one can recite poems by blending it with rich Setswana idioms and dialects.

Come to Molepolole big community events especially cultural ones, surely one will not go home without having listen to a piece of rich Setswana poem recited with royal dexterity that nobody can challenge.

Moreri, recently became toast of the day in Kanye during the funeral of the late former president Sir Ketumile Masire when he recited a poem in his honour, with great analogy and eloquence that matched that of Ga-Ngwaketse tribesmen like the late poet Sekokotla Kaboeamodimo.

With the ability to blend his poetic songs with present and past, this has proved to be a catch with many listeners and the enjoyment becomes more intense with the use of biblical quotes and passages, which inevitably evokes pleasure from the growing league of fans across all ages and gender.

Moroka has been on local scene and stage for some time including in the neighbouring South Africa and by his own admission he has even performed abroad in Europe and many were left calling for more as they were captivated by his use of his words.

He is yet to honour some of the flooding invitations coming from the West.

Some hot song-poems found in his 15-track Nkokowe album include track three, which is titled Tautona that praises the current President Lt Gen Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for his love and selflessness for his nation.

Others are Botho, which talks of the principle of humane as a nation; Lesilo, Botswana, Lesutlha; Tshwene o ya kae and Molepolole, which are sung with a strong beat and could best be enjoyed in a ride to Kweneng district late at night.

To sum up, Moreri is poetry bandit like William Shakespeare who can evoke sleeping memories of the old folk and make their emotions to wonder about in memory of the sorrowful and pleasant old times.

His poetry ability is unparalleled and adorned by many who always care to listen whenever he starts to recite poems especially on grand occasions.

Moreri’s poetic expertise is the most subtle, technically skilled, melodic, poignant and adventurous to say the least. ENDS
