23 Aug 2017

The creative arts industry keeps growing and sees various and unique concepts introduced to diversify what exists to help convert Botswana’s reliance on mining exports and ease unemployment woes.

As such, local fusion duo, Taola is set to launch.

The Lounge Experiment at the Sky Lounge on August 25 with a view to bring live lounge music and DJ experience to the fore.
In an interview, Taola co-founder, also an artiste, Thato Chuma said The Lounge Experiment was inspired by fusion of live music and the DJ culture.

“Its an event that speaks to people who love lounge music in its various forms and also want to experience unique and vibrant music offering that isn’t quite the norm,” Chuma said.

She indicated that in lounge and house music, the culture and its followers remained underground.

“We saw a great opportunity to bring a refined lounge culture experience to the mainstream, and to music lovers who enjoy this vast genre, as well as give attendees a unique social experience,” she added.

She added that Taola’s music, as the first fusion duo in the country, had garnered international DJs attention including London’s Reel People and SABC 3’s Club Culture and that had inspired them to introduce a similar vibe in the entertainment scene.

She further said the event would explore genres such as deep house, soul, rare groove, electro and alternative pop while DJs would primarily play vinyl.

Alongside Taola, the line-up would feature DJ Bigga who had played together with international artists such as Talib Kweli and Dead Prez, local vinyl devotees DJ KMoe, DJ Sips and Myza.

Renowned radio personality Brando would be the night host at the event which would bring with it unique elements where guests would make their own experimental drinks.

An expert would assist those keen to make their own signature drinks using locally sourced ingredients and inventive combinations.

“We look forward to the event growing and nurturing the lounge music culture in Botswana,” she said.

Meanwhile, the event sponsors include LCM Capital, Four4beats, Sky Lounge, Business Weekly, Taola as well as Krafted Vision. Tickets are sold at Webtickets. ENDS
