Turntables sustain DJ Dizzy-K

23 Aug 2017

For Emmanuel Kuswani, popularly known around Francistown as DJ Dizzy K, becoming a DJ has always been a dream of his from early days and got revived during his schooling days at Francistown Senior Secondary School.

Even though he wanted to be a DJ, he never thought it could sustain him, but in the year 2014, his music ambitions really took shape.

The soft spoken DJ is making a living from his talent, playing at parties, weddings, festivals and clubs.

It is these gigs that pay his every day bills; paying for his clothes, food and other necessities.

Looking at him, he comes across as a quiet and shy young man and his looks are only deceiving because when he is on the DJ decks, he packs mean punches.

He keeps his revellers on the dance floor through-out the night everywhere he plays and it is a rare fit on all accounts for many young DJs and even seasoned ones to achieve.

If he is given an hour to entertain, he always delivers hard thumping sounds until the last minute and every minute is critical to his brand.

When he started, he was given a slot to play at the popular BDF Area S camp where they host stokvels every weekend.

It was there that he received accolades and encouragement to pursue his deejaying skills and currently, he is unemployed and is focused only on advancing his DJ skills.

If he is not relaxing, he is mixing some new tunes as practice to sharpen his skills and he is comfortable on any decks as he is using only a laptop.

“I want to be an internationally recognised DJ. I look up to Chrispen The Drummer, Team Distant, Black Motion, Black Coffee and Dramatic Boys,” he said.

Describing himself as solely a house DJ, he started mixing deep house, then jumped onto commercial house so that he can show off his skills and mix some drums till the last minute.

He did not go to school to be a mix master like he currently is and his was a mixture of determination to learn and a passion to be the best.

DJ Dizzy K encouraged other aspiring DJs to develop new styles and develop some networks in the music industry in order to succeed in the trade. ENDS
