Court fines Dube for corruption

Maun Chief Magistrate Taboka Mopipi sentenced a 54 year old woman to five years imprisonment.

The accused person Lilian Dube was also fined P17 000 or two years imprisonment in default of payment on each count. Dube was accused of eight counts of Corruption in Respect of Official Transactions, contrary to Section 36 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act (Cap 08;05) Laws of Botswana.

Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) had revealed that the accused person being a public officer employed by Department of Road Transport and Safety as principal officer corruptly accepted a valuable consideration in the sum of P14 300 from Lorraine Sehularo, John Kandjou, Tiiso Thamaga, Korry Sehularo, Ueveura Mbakarejatjike, and Kgalalelo Keeebone, as a reward for issuing road theory Test and road test, a matter the accused was concerned about as a public officer.

Dube claimed that the afore mentioned people sat for and passed the road theory test whereas in fact and in truth the said people neither wrote nor passed the road theory test. BOPA
