Youth officer appears

A 43 year old woman was recently arraigned before Regional Magistrate Court South , charged with one count of Corruption in Respect of an Official Transaction, contrary to Section 25(1) as read with Section 42 and Punishable under Section 36 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act (Cap 08:05), Laws of Botswana.

Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) revealed that the accused person on April 17 2014 in Gaborone, whilst employed by Ministry of Youth Empowerment Sport and

Culture as a principal programmes officer and seconded to Botswana African Youth Games Organizing Committee as a procurement manager hence a public officer, corruptly accepted a valuable consideration in the sum of P10 000 from Thembiso Peters as a reward for assisting him to gain employment with the Botswana African Youth Games Organizing Committee as a procurement manager, a matter in which she could have been concerned with as a public officer.

The accused person pleaded not guilty and will appear in court for mention from the 5th to the 8th of December 2017.
